Come on, let's have a karate lesson!

On the 20th of November my dad and I went to Hill park school for my karate class.

When we got to Hill park school, my Sensi Christian decided to have a meeting with us first to discuss what we were going to do for our fundraiser on hypnosis night. A hypnosis night is when a hypnotist comes in and they hypnotise some people. After the meeting, our class started.

Before we started the class, we had to bow in. A bow is when you sit on your knees and think about what you thin is going to happen. After that, we had a warm up. We had to find a partner and stand opposite each other and I was with my friend Cooper. Next sensi Christian said, " Run to each other and do 10 to 1 push ups then go back and do 2 to 1 setups and keep going!" After 15 minutes of a warm up, we did komate.

Komate in English means fighting. First we had to put on our mits and pads. Mits and pads are protection guards for our hands and feet.

After we got ready, we went back to our partner and started to fight. Cooper said that I was as blind as a bat because I always forget where I was hitting. After we fought for a little while, I partnered up with my friend Morgan. Morgan is a person who has a heart of gold because she is sweet and kind.

After that, we rehearsed for the hypnosis night. I was with my friends Andrew and Jess, they are people who are always as busy as a bee. We had to think of activities to do on the night.  My friend suggested that we could do the mannequin challenge. The mannequin challenge is when you stay still like a mannequin. After we did the mannequin challenge, we went home because we were tired.

I had a wonderful time doing the mannequin challenge. I hope next time, my friend Sam could come because she really wanted to do the mannequin challenge.

Happy first birthday Jodha!

Learning Intention: We are learning to use descriptive language in our recount.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I use adjectives to describe Jodha's first birthday.
On the 29th of October, my mother, brother, sister and I went to bounce and beyond for my dad's friend's son's birthday party. My dad's friend's son's name was Jodha and that he was turning 1 year old!

Before we went to Jodha's party my mum, brother, sister and I went to buy him a birthday present from  Fulsun. When we got to Fulsun, my mum went inside to get a present while my sibling and I had to wait in the car. After a while, my mum came back with with two bags and one one of them looked like it had clothes in it. When she got in the car, she told me to open one of the bags. So I did and I saw  a birthday bag that had, "Happy birthday!" After that, my mum took  her phone out and entered in the in the address for where Bounce and beyond was. It was 10a Kerwyn Ave, East Tamaki, Auckland.

When we got to Bounce and beyond, we noticed that Jodha and his family were not there so while we were waiting, my brother and I went to play on some of the equipment that were also there. First we went to the climbing wall. When we got to the climbing wall, we saw that there was a big queue so we went to the slides.

There were two slides. One slide was really big and it was coloured red, yellow and blue. The other one was a combination of two slides and it was coloured green, blue and yellow.

First, my brother I went to the big, red, yellow and blue slide. There were stars that went up to the top. When we got to the top my brother told me to push him down but gently. When he got to the bottom, he started to cry so I quickly got down and asked him if he was ok. He didn't answer me so  I took him to my mum and she told me to go and play while she looked after him.

Image resultAfter a while Jodha and his family came so we all went to to the party room. The party room was dark and was a medium sized room. The room was filled with lots of food.  I ate some chips, chicken and fish. The chicken was so crispy and delicious.

After we had finished eating, we all sang the happy birthday song to Jodha and and ate some cake. It was a rainbow layered cake with white icing. After we all had some cake, my brother and I went downstairs to get some ice cream. I had some chocolate ice cream and my brother had a vanilla ice cream. After we had some ice cream , we went home because we were all tired.

I had a wonderful day at Jodhas' birthday party. I hope my dad could come next time because he really wanted to come.

On one sunny morning, Alice and her family went for a picnic at the park because it was Alice's birthday.

When they got to the park, Alice's mum Jill packed a beautiful lunch for them, they had fruit and ham sandwiches and lemonade. Just when they were about to start eating, Jill got a phone call from her mother. Jill's mother told Jill that her dad has passed away and that they could come over and see him.

Jill told Alice and the family what had happened that they should go and see him right away. when they got to Jill's mum's house, they all felt sad and miserable.

Jill's mum saw Alice crying and she told her to not cry over spilt milk, because they can't change what has happened.

Never go near a hurricane!

Image result for hurricanesA hurricane is a huge storm! It can be up to 600 miles across and have strong winds spiraling inward and upward at speeds of up to 75 to a 200 kilometers per hour.

Each hurricane usually lasts for over a week, moving 10-20 miles per hour over the open ocean. Hurricanes gather heat and energy through contact with warm ocean waters. Evaporation from the seawater increases their power.

Hurricanes rotate in a counterclockwise direction around an "eye" in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise direction in the Southern Hemisphere. The center of the storm or "eye" is the calmest part.

The hurricane only starts with light winds and fair weather but it builds up as it comes onto land causing heavy rains, strong winds and large waves which can damage anything in its way like buildings, trees and cars. The farmers will be badly affected in their livelihood when their cattle and other animals, and most especially their plantations and crops are damaged or destroyed.

People should never go near or close to a hurricane because it is very dangerous and it could kill people as much as it can destroy things and damage infrastructures and buildings.

Learning Intention: We are learning to write an explanation.
Success Criteria: I know I can do this when I write how a hurricane works starting with an introduction, followed by the explanation, the effects and then a concluding sentence.

Do you have a basketball hoop?

Learning Intention: We are learning to use descriptive language in our recount.
Success Criteria:I know I can do this when I use adjectives to describe my weekend buying my cousin a basketball hoop
On Saturday, my family and I went to the Warehouse to purchase a basketball hoop for my cousin. First, we had breakfast. We had some cereal, bread and some eggs. Then we went to the Warehouse that is at Sylvia park in the car.
After we went inside the store, we went to look for a basketball and a hoop straight away. When we saw the basketballs, we thought that they weren't pumped up properly, however they were all beautiful. My dad chose a nicely pumped up ball because we didn't have a ball pump. Then we went to choose a basketball hoop. My dad and mum saw a junior hoop for $80 dollars. We weren’t sure whether it was a small one or not because it came in a huge box.
We asked a staff member if we could have a look inside the box because we weren’t sure if the basketball hoop was the right size for my cousin or not. When we looked in the box it was too small. So my parents, brother, sister and I tried to find a bigger hoop as quietly as we could. We found one that was just the right size so we brought it for $70.
Soon we left the store and we went to the pizza shop to order a pepperoni and a ham and cheese pizza. The cashier said that we could pick up the pizza in 20 minutes. We waited for my mum to get the pizza and then we headed to my cousin's house. I ran as quickly as I could back to the house because I was so excited about playing with the basketball.
My favourite part was when we got the basketball and the hoop because my brother, cousin and I have always wanted to get a hoop. My family and I were all so happy because this way we can have exercise any time that we want. When my brother, cousin and I get better at playing basketball, we might get a higher basketball hoop.
